Kanishka is a Research Assistant Professor at TTIC. Kanishka’s research program lies at the intersection of Cognitive Science, Linguistics, and Artificial Intelligence. He is primarily interested in characterizing the statistical mechanisms that underlie the acquisition and generalization of complex linguistic phenomena and conceptual meaning. To this end, he: (1) develops methods to evaluate and analyze AI models from the perspective of semantic cognition; and (2) uses AI models as simulated learners to test and generate novel hypotheses about language acquisition and generalization. His work has been acknowledged with a best paper award at EACL 2023, and an outstanding paper award at ACL 2023.
Previously, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Texas at Austin. Before that, he got his PhD from Purdue University.
