Michael Yu received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and in Mathematics from MIT in 2010, followed by a M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 2011. He completed his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology from the University of California San Diego in 2017.
His research focuses on computational biology– developing new machine learning methods and algorithms to study large biomedical datasets. He studies how biological interaction networks, such as those between proteins and genes, give rise to complex functions like cell growth. He is also interested in transferring techniques in computational biology to other fields, including natural language processing.
Michael also enjoys cooking and long distance running.
